The Scottish Legal Awards aims to recognise excellence in Scottish law.

The independent competition is judged by a panel of experts drawn from across the sector, bringing together industry experience and market knowledge to recognise the greatest achievements in the legal industry from across Scotland.

The best performing individuals, teams, firms and legal service providers in the Scottish legal profession will be revealed at the national awards celebration for Scottish law held in Glasgow, on Thursday 22nd September 2022.

We are delighted to announce that we will be in attendance as finalists in the Legal Technology Award category.

Grant Yuill, Denovo’s Head of Marketing, gives some background about the journey Denovo have been on building one of the best used legal case management platforms in the country.

The journey to get here

Over the past few years we have been developing case management software that is now considered to be the operating system of law firms across Scotland. Our efforts mean we have integrated our technology into the DNA of practices in ways that even surprised lawyers.

We’ve been developing market leading legal software to help the Scottish legal industry for over 30 years, but CaseLoad has taken the technology to another level.

Our journey to build this case management software platform has been very much solicitor led, meaning we collaborate with solicitors to design and develop software solutions and services specifically for law firms in Scotland. We now have a software platform that is dynamic, fully customisable and ever-evolving.

We’re proud to say the time spent with lawyers and their support teams seems to be paying off as we are now the software of choice for hundreds of Scottish law firms, trusted partners of the Law Society of Scotland and finalists at the most prestigious Legal Awards event in the country.

Collaboration

When we started work on CaseLoad, we set out with one purpose in mind – collaborate with law firms to remove the repetitive, admin tasks associated with legal work. The objective was to give lawyers more time to spend with their clients, to manage their businesses, have a more productive working day and to get some of their personal time back. With that in mind we decided to take a consultative approach with our law firm partners. We listened to their challenges and gripes and spent time analysing how they work. By doing this and taking our time to understand how every facet of a law firm works we brought a suite of software to the market that enhanced the capabilities of a law firm and brought all areas of data capture into one location.

Since 2019 we have worked in collaboration with all our partners combining law firm operations and technology to create solutions to new, but very real, challenges practioners now faced in their daily working life. We focused on where efficiencies could be found in different work types. Our expert team have continuously provided the Scottish legal community with advice, hints, and tips to automate processes. We have worked round the clock, literally spending every hour available to us with law firms to make sure they could run their businesses better and practice law in the most efficient way possible.

The collaborative work we put in led to current Law Firm of the Year, Jones Whyte, offering extremely positive feedback. With Ian McNaull, Director of Operations and Strategy, saying; “It is fair to say that huge amounts of effort, skill and insight from the Denovo team have gone into the customisation of CaseLoad for our firm. This collaboration has had a direct and positive impact on the strength and success of Jones Whyte.”

2022

Fast forward to 2022 and we are spending more time than ever working with our law firm partners to shape their success and improve business operations. We spent Q1 of this year reaching out to our existing law firm partners to create strategic plans to maximise how they can fully integrate our software into their businesses. We’ve been able to visit firms on site at their office and in court to truly understand how they work. This has allowed us to customise our platform for every individual user.

2022 is all about working with our law firm partners to allow them to shape the software’s future to suit their needs. Even as I write this, we are piloting brand new workflows which have been built in partnership with our law firm clients. Many describing them as “game changers”.

We are also building roadmaps to work collaboratively with the likes of the The Law Society of Scotland, Scottish Bar Associations, and Hey Legal, not to mention other software providers and our integration partners. Together we are creating innovative content and developing a dynamic software platform, woven into the fabric of law firms operations, that will help lawyers run their business better using technology.

Grateful

It’s been a tough couple of years but we truly believe we’ve helped steer the industry through it. We’ve worked extremely hard with our law firm partners to navigate through one of the most disruptive periods any of our businesses will ever face, not to mention the personal strain so many have felt since the beginning of the pandemic. Our ambition is to continue using technology to do some good in the Scottish legal community.

We are genuinely grateful and humbled that the Scottish Legal Awards has recognised the hard work our team and our clients have put in. We have never asked for thanks or recognition for the work we do. This is primarily because our sole purpose is to help law firms and that’s what we do. However, I know that being involved in an event like this will mean so much to the team. Them having the knowledge that the Scottish legal community, The Scottish Legal Awards and our clients are shining a spotlight on all the hours of hard work they have put in to keep firms operating at the highest possible level makes all of us extremely proud.

Thank you to our law firm partners across Scotland for your ongoing support.
